Governance Structure
The size and composition of the MIT Council, which is the governing body of MIT, changed from 1 May 2010 as a result of the enactment of the Education (Polytechnics) Amendment Act 2009. For the period 1 January 2010 to 30 April 2010, Council was comprised of up to eighteen members elected or appointed in accordance with section 165 of the Education Act 1989. From 1 May 2010, Council is comprised of 8 members elected or appointed in accordance with section 222AA of the Education (Polytechnics) Amendment Act 2009.
