Audition Tips

Be prepared to tell us why you want to be a performing arts student and indicate which talent you feel you are best at (singing, dance or acting).

Bring backing tracks or sheet music as we will have a musician there.

Understand this is not just performance this is also an academic course. Should you be accepted you have the option of going into the Diploma in Performing Arts (Level 5), or to begin the first year of the Bachelor of Creative Arts in Performing Arts (Level 7).

We are looking for talent and that there is potential for development in all three disciplines, not necessarily for perfect polished performances in every discipline.

Be curious and ask questions about the lecturers and the programme as well. Show us if you have demo singing tracks or a DVD from a previous performance to submit we will include this with your application.*

Relax and have fun.

*This will be part of your application and will not be returned.

Work and Study

Many of our students work and manage their family obligations while studying. We understand that working while studying is often necessary and we support our students to find the appropriate balance between the two.

Students may also be working in field of the arts while studying and often experience a new approach to their work as they develop their skills and experience through study.

If you have any questions about achieving a suitable work and study balance, feel free to contact us.

Building Relationships in the Performing Arts Industry

Relationships within the performing arts industry are a vital part of the student experience at the School of Performing Arts. Many of our lecturers are practicing performers in their own right and bring their experience and inspiration into the classroom. Students are encouraged to go see shows and can also gain permission to perform for professional productions outside of the school while studying which ensures students are being given the opportunity to gain real world experience and start building professional networks.

Each year the Performing Art students have the opportunity to showcase their talent in an end of year show.
