The Diploma in Business is a Level 5 programme which takes one year of full-time study. Students wishing to study part-time may also undertake this qualification and will typically complete it in 18 months to two years.

The diploma gives students practical and relevant business skills and knowledge, together with the study skills required to successfully complete the programme.

Graduates of the diploma may choose to enrol for a further year of full-time study (or part-time equivalent) in the New Zealand Diploma in Business (NZDipBus). Alternatively, students can enrol in a relevant degree in the Faculty of Business and be eligible for cross-credits (60 credits).

Entry Requirements

  • Applicants less than 20 years old must have a minimum of 14 numeracy credits at level 1 or higher in Mathematics or Pangarau on the National Qualifications Framework;
    and
  • 50 credits at level 2 or above with at least 12 credits in each of three subjects including a minimum of 8 literacy credits at level 2 or higher in English or Te Reo Maori; 4 credits must be in reading and 4 credits must be in writing. The literacy credits will be selected from a schedule of approved achievement standards and unit standards. (The schedule is available at http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/ncea/for-students/ue/litreqs.html) or equivalent to the above.
  • Applicants 20 years old or greater must have relevant work experience; this may be evidenced through references/attestation from employers and/or an interview with a representative of the Faculty of Business.
  • International students for whom English is a second language must also have an IELTS score of 6.0 (Academic) with no individual band lower than 5.5 or equivalent
