English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
Statistics New Zealand

"I chose to study at MIT because it had a very good reputation for its English courses, and I needed to improve my English to get the job I wanted in New Zealand. MIT has an excellent learning environment with high-tech facilities, and highly qualified and dedicated lecturers. They helped me improve my listening and reading skills in a short time and gave me the confidence to look for a job. The study was very practical and included workplace visits. All parts of the English course were good but particularly the job interview test. Because of MIT, I not only got a job in my field but made lots of good friends."

These courses are offered over 18 weeks (full or part time) or over nine weeks (part time / evening).

Entry requirements are open for students from a non-English speaking background. On satisfactory completion students are awarded a Certificate qualification

ESOL (Elementary to Advanced) courses focus on the language and social requirements of ESOL students. The courses develop speaking and listening confidence and vocabulary, and provide students with reading and writing practice. During the courses students also learn about New Zealand life and language and are provided with essential strategies for social networking, especially in health, finance and meeting people in the community. On completion some students seek entry into tertiary institutions.

Courses start February and July. Evening classes start February, April, July and October.
