FAQs
Who can study here?
The School of Secondary-Tertiary Studies is for students in the Counties-Manukau area. These students will be nominated by their secondary school Principal using the School Endorsement Form included within this brochure. Students will be selected from Year 10 or Year 11 of secondary school and will enter the programme in Year 11 or Year 12. Because it’s vitally important to look after these young students above and beyond their academic needs, there will be a high level of academic advice and pastoral support. This includes study and learning support, career and course advice, plus a health and counselling service.
What can you learn?
Students will study core subjects, just as they would at secondary school. As part of these studies, there’ll be an emphasis on literacy, digital literacy and numeracy skills, and gaining credits from the NZQA framework. From the start of the year on the tertiary side of things, there will be the opportunity to study MIT elective courses in areas such as:
- Automotive Engineering
- Building and Construction

On top of this, students will learn valuable employment skills like:
- Goal setting
- Interpersonal skills
- Planning
