SSTS information for Schools
The School of Secondary – Tertiary Studies (SSTS) is an alternative to secondary school where a holistic approach is taken to offer new purpose to students through early identification of vocational and career pathways. The programme is offered at MIT collaboratively with secondary schools in Auckland. Students may be identified by the school, or parents may request that the school endorses an application to attend SSTS.
Students selected at Year 10 for attendance at SSTS in Year 11. The students at SSTS complete their secondary schooling at MIT (up to NCEA level 3), accompanied by a two year careers and technical education qualification (diploma or 1–2 years of a degree).
How can MIT offer support in identifying, referring and applying for students to enrol at the SSTS?
- Meet with parents and students
- Run information sessions/evenings with parents and students
- Assist parents, students and schools in completing application forms
- Follow up school referrals by telephoning parents, visiting homes
- Organise and host visits to the SSTS for school staff, parents and students.
