The Grind
The Grind offers coffee making (barista) training for all MIT catering and hospitality students and new short courses have been developed for people wishing to specialise in barista operations.
The MIT Certificate of Achievement in Barista Operations is a seven week part time course offered through MIT Short Courses. Students will study the history of coffee, coffee growing regions, harvesting, processing and roasting, as well as all the essential skills for preparing the full range of coffee styles from espresso to latte.
MIT has also developed a four hour short course for people who want an express introduction to the art of making coffee.
Coffee has become the wine of today and there is a real industry need for quality training of baristas. The Grind is the only purpose-built barista training facility in a tertiary institution in the North Island.
