The Certificate in Carpentry lays the foundations for a career in the building industry.
It is designed to follow on from the Certificate in Entry to Carpentry or is for those who have one year of experience in the industry. The programme builds on existing skills and knowledge and gives students the opportunity to work on the construction of a single storey, three bedroom timber framed house.

Entry Requirements
- Applicants who have successfully complete the MIT Certificate in Entry to Carpentry or equivalent qualification.
OR - Persons who have one year of relevant building industry experience.
AND - Be physically capable of completing the practical aspects of the programme, which may include working at heights.
AND - Have English language competence to undertake this programme which is taught and assessed in English. Any applicant whose first language is not English may be required to provide evidence of an IELTS (Academic) band score of 6.00 with no band below 5.50 or equivalent.
Selection Requirements
Where the programme is oversubscribed preference will be given to applicants who:
- Have successfully complete the MIT Certificate in Entry to Carpentry
- Demonstrate recent involvement within the building industry.
- Can show evidence of their ability to commit to the achievement of set goals.
The above attributes will be assessed through an interview process. Whanau support will be encouraged during the interview.

This full-time carpentry programme at Level 4 leads to a National Certificate in Carpentry (Level 4) after all on-site training has been undertaken.
