The Certificate in Entry to Carpentry provides students who have no previous building industry experience the opportunity to develop fundamental construction skills and knowledge. As part of the programme, students will learn about and take part in the construction of a non-consented timber framed building. The programme also covers the skills and safety awareness necessary for employment on a building site.

Entry Requirements
- Applicants must be physically capable of completing the practical aspects of the programme; which may include working at heights.
AND - Have English language competence to undertake this programme which is taught and assessed in English. Any applicant whose first language is not English may be required to provide evidence of an IELTS (Academic) band score of 5.5 with no band below 5.00 or equivalent.
Selection Requirements
Where the programme is oversubscribed preference will be given to applicants who:
- Demonstrate recent involvement within the building industry, for example Recent employment part or full time directly within the industry, Recent work experience in related fields
Or - Completed a comparable pre-trade course
- Can show oral and or written evidence at their interview their ability to commit to the achievement of set goals, written examples may include: School reports, Sporting achievement, Community involvement, Successful completion of other programmes (e.g. PTE Programme) .
The Above attributes will be assessed through an interview process. Whanau support will be encouraged during the interview.
