The Certificate in Motorsport (Level 3) is designed to introduce students to the world of managed motorsport events. As well as gaining the skills required to modify a vehicle for participation in motorsport, this certificate also provides students with the opportunity to move into other areas in the automotive engineering, automotive electrical, motor body and vehicle refinishing trades.

Based in Pukekohe, this innovative and flexible programme is designed to give students experience in a range of trade disciplines within the automotive industry, and to gain sufficient knowledge and skills under supervision to prepare an automotive vehicle for participation in motorsport.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must meet the following entry requirements: 

  • Have successfully completed one of the following:  MIT Certificate in Motorsport Level 2, MIT Certificates in Automotive Electrical Level 2,   MIT Certificate in Automotive Technology Level 2,   National Certificate in Motor industry (Entry Skills ) (Level 2) with strands in Automotive Electrical and Mechanical and Collision Repair or  equivalent
    OR
  • Have relevant industry experience. Applicants will be required to present a portfolio of evidence.   Note: This portfolio of evidence will be evaluated prior to student interview.
    AND 
  • Be physically capable of completing the practical aspects of the programme .
    AND 
  • Have English language competence to undertake this programme which is taught and assessed in English.  Any applicant whose first language is not English may be required to provide evidence of an IELTS (Academic) band score of 5.5 with no band below 5.00 or equivalent.
     AND 
  • Be able to demonstrate the appropriate skills, motivation, attitudes and attributes required to work in the motorsport environment.  These attributes will be assessed through an interview process. The interview will also provide an opportunity to discuss the programme philosophy, clarify the applicant's career path expectations to ensure their choice of programme is correct. Applicants who have completed any of the 5 (five) mentioned certificates will not require a formal interview

206.317 Use a glass reinforced plastic (GRP) repair kit to repair a damaged motor vehicle panel
206.318 Weld aluminium in the downhand positions using the gas tungsten arc welding process
206.319 Use and maintain a gas metal arc welding (GMAW) plant in the motor and related industries
206.320 Join metals using the torch brazing and soldering processes

Further Training or Study

Apprenticeship in Automotive industry training to work towards a National Certificate.
