About the Programme

 The National Certificate in Floristry (Level 2) is the first semester of the National Certificate in Floristry (Level 4) programme. It is an introductory qualification for people entering a career in the floristry industry, or who are already in the floristry industry and wish to obtain a qualification. This national qualification recognises the skills of a junior florist. People credited with the qualification are able to demonstrate fundamental floristry knowledge and skills, under the supervision of a senior florist.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must meet the following entry requirements:

  • Be physically capable of completing the practical aspects of the programme and
  • Have English language competence to undertake this programme which is taught and assessed in English. Any applicant whose first language is not English may be required to provide evidence of an IELTS (Academic) band score of 5.5 with no band below 5.00 or equivalent and
  • Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they have the attitudes and ability to work and study at the required level for the programme. This will be determined at interview.

Programme Summary

Holders of the National Certificate in Floristry are able to demonstrate knowledge of flowering plants, foliage and the principles and elements of floristry design.

They are able to determine customer requirements, deal with complaints, ensure customers receive quality service and promote the benefits of a range of services to meet the individual requirements of customers.

Students will learn to maintain and care for fresh flowers and plants, including sundries and ancillary items; prepare, arrange, present floristry stock and merchandise.

Students will learn to prepare, wire, assemble, wrap and package floristry products to a specific design. Students will also have the opportunity to take part in creating window displays for industry.

  • Assemble and prepare Floristry Products
  • Floristry Stock and Merchandise (1)
  • Flowering and foliage plants
  • Health and Safety in the Floristry workplace
  • Provide service to Floristry customers
  • Elements and principles of Floristry design.
