The Pacific community health worker programme is designed to provide you with a qualification and the practical skills and knowledge to work as a community health worker, alongside other professionals in health and social service related fields for the benefit of the health and wellbeing of families, individuals and groups in Pacific communities.

Entry Requirements
Applicants must meet the following entry requirements:
- Completed three years secondary school education
or - Be over 18 years of age at the time of the commencement of the programme
and - Make confidential disclosure of criminal convictions
Note: A criminal record will not automatically exclude an applicant from entry to the programme, however crimes against another person will be taken very seriously. Factors taken into account will include: seriousness of the offence, the age at which it was committed, the length of time since it was committed, letters of support from community agencies/organisations. Where applicants declare a criminal conviction the final decision regarding entry to the programme will be made by the Dean of Faculty. Applicants have the right to appeal this decision to the Dean of Faculty. Disclosure of criminal convictions will be made to work placements if police screening is required by the agency’s policy.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate the following attributes:
- Strong motivation to work in Health Care
- Commitment to study
- Strong motivation to work in community settings
- Demonstrate any work/life experience skills
- Show maturity and communication skills
- Show an understanding of the Pacific world views
- Applicants can demonstrate English skills (via a test at the interview) to pass the assessments
- Demonstrate a reasonable likelihood of success on the programme.
The above attributes will be assessed through an interview process. All applicants will be interviewed. All applicants will provide two character references from people of standing in their community.
