This programme prepares students to apply for registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand as an Enrolled nursing.
Students gain knowledge and skills in nursing, social science and structure and function of the human body and will undertake a range of clinical placements.

Entry Requirements
The School of Nursing and Health Studies encourages applicants from diverse backgrounds who are seeking to be employed in health care. If you believe you meet the following entry criteria with alternative evidence, please contact us to assess your eligibility for this programme.
Applicants must meet the following entry requirements:
- 12 credits in NCEA English Level 1, 12 credits in NCEA Mathematics (or Pangarau) Level 1 and 48 credits NCEA Level 2 or equivalent.
or - Relevant work experience and be able to demonstrate that they can work/study at a level appropriate to the programme. Each applicant will be considered on an individual basis however evidence of ability to study at level 4-5 may be required to support the application. Examples of evidence may include personal life skills and previous activities, or academic achievement such as completion of minimum of 60 credits at L4 (achievement based) or equivalent.
and - Have English language competence to undertake this programme which is taught and assessed in English. Any applicants whose first language is not English may be required to provide evidence of an overall IELTS (Academic) of 6.5 in all bands, or equivalent.
and - Hold a current workplace first aid certificate.
- Provide a completed medical declaration and /or evidence of a current health certificate indicating ability to practice safely from a registered health practitioner.
- Provide two testimonials and/or character references attesting to candidate's suitability for working in Health Care.
- Provide a confidential report from the institution where a candidate is applying to transfer to another institution.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate the following attributes:
- Commitment to meet the study requirements of the programme (e.g. time for study, punctuality, transport to placements)
- Strong motivation to work with people in the health context
The above attributes will be assessed through an interview process.
Each applicant will be required to submit a New Zealand Police Consent to Disclosure of Information form with their application which will be sent to the Police Licensing and Vetting Service if the applicant is accepted into the programme. The following is required for all successful applicants: Relevant evidence of health screening to meet various Health Authority/Institutional requirements.
