The Certificate in Tertiary Degree Studies is a one-semester 60 credit programme that prepares students for entry into degree-level study at MIT or other tertiary institutions. The course is very flexible and lets students choose four elective courses from many of MIT’s programmes as well as introductory courses in study skills and academic writing.

Entry Requirements
Applicants must meet the following entry requirements:
- A minimum of 42 NCEA credits at Level 3 or higher on the National Qualifications Framework, including a minimum of 14 credits at level 3 or higher in each of two subjects from the approved subject list http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/ncea/acrp/secondary/6/62.html#approved with a further 14 credits at level 3 or higher taken from one or two additional domains on the National Qualifications Framework or approved subjects.
- A minimum of 8 literacy credits at Level 2 or higher in English or te reo Maori, 4 credits must be in reading and 4 credits must be in writing, or equivalent and
- A minimum of 14 NCEA numeracy credits at Level 1 or higher in mathematics or equivalent or
- Demonstrate equivalent practical, professional or educational experiences which indicate the ability to study at degree level. This will be assessed through documentation provided or an interview process which may include diagnostic assessment and
- Have English language competence to undertake this programme which is taught and assessed in English.
Any applicants whose first language is not English may be required to provide evidence of an overall IELTS (Academic) band score of 6.5 (with no score below 6.0) or equivalent.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate the following attributes which will be assessed through documentation provided or an interview process to which applicants may bring family and/or whanau support:
- a strong motivation to study at degree level
- a mature approach to study
Applicants will be accepted in order of application. Pathway selection will be subject to spaces on each course.
