About the Programme
The Certificate in Commercial Logistics (Level 5) consists of two distinct certificates: the MIT Certificate in Commercial Logistics (FIATA Diploma in Freight Forwarding) and the MIT Certificate in Commercial Logistics (Shipping).
This programme aims to enhance the skills and knowledge base of industry employees already working in the freight forwarding and shipping sectors of the transport industry.
The freight forwarding option has been specifically designed for those wishing to obtain the International FIATA Diploma in Freight Forwarding.

Entry Requirements
Applicants must meet the following entry requirements:
- Must currently be employed in the New Zealand forwarding or shipping industry and either
- Be referred by their employer or
- Have at least two years experience in the freight forwarding or shipping industry and
- Applicants must also be able to demonstrate the discipline for self-directed study at this level, and the motivation to learn. These attributes will be assessed through an interview process and
- Have English language competence to undertake this programme which is taught and assessed in English.
Any applicant whose first language is not English may be required to provide evidence of an overall IELTS (Academic) band score of 6.0 (with no score below 5.5) or equivalent.
This programme will not be offered to international students due to the requirements of industry resources and support.
The interview will be undertaken by telephone. The staff member conducting the interview will complete an interview evaluation form. The purpose of the interview is to outline the programme and to ensure the student is aware of the course content and assessment policies. The interview will also assess the entry criteria of discipline and motivation. The interview will also ensure that the applicant has applied for the most appropriate level of programme by assessing work experience, prior learning and aptitude. Following the interview, the panel will decide whether the prospective student should be accepted or declined entry to the programme.
Prospective students who meet the entry criteria will be accepted until the course is full.

Programme Summary
In the Certificate in Commercial Logistics (Level 5), students must complete 60 credits made up of three Common Core courses (30 credits) plus a choice between four Freight Forwarding Specialist courses (30 credits) or three Shipping Specialist courses (30 credits).

Career Opportunities
Graduates of the Freight Forwarding specialisation will also be eligible to apply for the FIATA Diploma in Freight Forwarding. MIT is the only provider in New Zealand authorised to offer the FIATA international accreditation.
This certificate provides a staircase for distance students to the graduate certificate programmes in Shipping and Supply Chain Management and in turn, the Bachelor in Business. It is perfect for those in the industry who wish to up-skill and progress to management positions.
