The practical skills you need to take on an occupation in the travel industry.

The MIT Certificate in Travel builds on the Tourism Core Skills qualification to equip graduates with specific capabilities sought by employers for roles in the travel industry.

This qualification is delivered in an integrated and applied manner to develop specialist knowledge and technical skills. You will learn to use industry software such as the Amadeus Airline Computer

Reservations System and graduate with improved interpersonal and sales skills.

As a graduate with this qualification you will be prepared for a role such as travel agent, wholesale consultant and a variety of airport and airline positions.

Once you have completed this certificate there are plenty of opportunities for further study at diploma level if you wish to open doors to supervisory positions in the travel industry.

This Certificate incorporates the National Certificate in Travel (Retail Strand)(Level 3)

Entry Requirements

Applicants must meet one of the following entry requirements:

  • Have the MIT Certificate in Tourism Customer Services or
  • Have the National Certificate in Tourism and Travel (Core Skills) (Level 3) including unit standard 18212.

Those for whom English is not a first language may be required to provide evidence of an overall IELTS (Academic) band score of 5.5 (with no individual score below 5.0) or equivalent and

Applicants must be able to demonstrate the following attributes:

  • A customer service orientation
  • Confidence and clarity of expression when communicating verbally
  • Listening skills
  • An enthusiasm and motivation to pursue a career in the travel industry.

These attributes will be assessed through an interview process.

Applicants who do not meet the entry criteria will be referred to other appropriate programmes within the school or within the institute. Those who meet the entry requirements will be selected in order of application.

Programme Summary

You must successfully complete 4 courses to graduate.

Course selection includes:

  • Retail travel operations, products and travel information

  • Computer reservations, land and air travel arrangements

  • Travel management systems for customer itineraries, reservations and ticketing

  • World geography and travel regulations

  • Pacific Island countries or Australia as travel destinations
