I wanted to gain a very valuable qualification and the confidence to step into the next stage of my life and the MBA offered by Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT) in partnership with Southern Cross University (SCU), Australia, enabled me to do that. This programme offered me great flexibility with a clearly structured schedule and list of contacts, should I have any worries. I also asked around to find out which programmes had the better names in regards to graduate success and this programme received top marks, so it was a no brainer.
I can now place certain parts of business into categories to better understand them, as well as write academically and deal with the pressure of deadlines, family life and my sporting career.
The MIT lecturers were very supportive and their pure interest in students’ success meant they would help with anything they could to make the experience as positive as possible. The hands-on assistance from lecturers and tutors, the opportunity to attend weekend workshops and sitting exams in New Zealand made MIT a great place to study.
Potential employers have been very impressed that I have completed an MBA and it has certainly added value to my interviews and possible employment. I am aware that although I have graduated, I now need to learn more about the field and utilise the skills I have learnt. This will take time and patience but hopefully one day I will become a senior executive or CEO of a large corporation or sporting organisation.
It is a really hard programme, being a Masters, but the partnership between MIT and SCU is seamless and so professional that you never feel that you are alone or helpless. I realised one of the greatest fears, that I wouldn’t be smart enough to graduate from a University programme, was unfounded and I learnt that anyone with a desire and a dream can achieve whatever they want. This would not have been possible for me if it wasn’t for MIT.
