Student Support
There are plenty of things to do at MIT and lots of opportunities to meet other Maori students. Start off the week with a Monday morning karakia at the marae, or come along to lunch in the wharekai every Wednesday. Join the MIT Kapa Haka group or a MIT sports team, take part in a MIT Whanau day or join the Maori Student Roopu. Whatever you choose, make the most of your time here and enjoy your success at MIT's Maori graduate celebration.
Nga Kete Wananga Marae
MIT's Nga Kete Wananga Marae is for MIT students and staff. It incorporates a wharenui (Te Kete Uruuru Matua), a wharekai (Tahua Roa), classrooms and offices. It also has a whanau room, Te Rourou Iti, which is handy when you need a quiet place to study or catch up on assignments.
General Student Support
MIT has a extensive range of support services for students including the student cafes, Childrens Education Centre, Library, Learning Support Centre, Health and Counselling Centre, computer areas and support for students with disabilities. The Otara Recreational Centre is located right next to MIT.
Scholarships
You'll be surprised at how many scholarships are available for Maori students. Contact the Student Support Advisor (Maori) for more information.
Student Loans and Allowances
If you are 18 years and over and a full time student, you may be eligible for a student allowance which you will not have to pay back. A student loan covers course fees and/or living expenses for full time students. For more information go to www.studylink.govt.nz or phone 0800 88 99 00.
