Located in the heart of the largest Pacific population in New Zealand, Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT) is committed to the current and future success of Pasifika students and to playing a significant role in the development and advancement of our Pasifika communities.
MIT is home to nearly 6,000 Pasifika students and has had thousands of Pasifika Graduates over the years. The MIT Pasifika Community Centre is designed to be a gathering place for all Pasifika communities in Auckland and a prominent community facility. The Centre provides a functional place for the diverse communities of Auckland to utilise, to support the enhancement of the communities educational, social, cultural and economic wellbeing.
Our commitment to our Pasifika community
Pasifika Development Plan
Our commitments and accountabilities have been developed within the Pasifika Development Plan and are closely aligned to the key strategic priorities for MIT.
The Pasifika Development Plan encompasses the following goals and objectives;
To contribute to successful Pasifika student achievement that reflects demographic responsibility.
To develop, enhance and maintain relationships with Pasifika communities in the Counties Manukau region.
To provide a framework for Pasifika leadership at all levels.
The establishment of a Pasifika Centre on campus.
To develop, enhance and maintain collaborative "partnerships" with tertiary education institutions in the Pacific region.
At MIT we want to ensure our Pasifika students stay connected to their cultural identity throughout their time at MIT. Our first MIT Pasifika orientation programme was a chance to demonstrate the services that will allow our Pasifika students to flourish and succeed at MIT. In partnership with our Pasifika community we are committed to getting our Pasifika youth into education to enable them to reach their goals, dreams and aspirations. Check out the action from our Pasifika Orientation.
Events at the Pasifika Community Centre
The Pasifika Community Centre is fast becoming a hub for many business, church and other community events.
The MIT Pasifika Community Centre is an ideal venue for conferences and meetings for any number of people up to 100 people with all the facilities you need – a large gathering room, break out rooms, all equipment and on-site catering. Groups undertaking professional development, strategic planning, team building or simply getting together would be most welcome to make this facility with its wonderful themed atmosphere a special place for your important day.
Manukau Institute of Technology plans to build Stage 2 of the MIT Pasifika Centre, an iconic Pasifika Gathering Hall, that will accommodate around five hundred people. Plans for Stage 2 are on display in the MIT Pasifika Community Centre, and this project will commence when funding allows.
