Graduation update - August 2020
Kia ora koutou katoa,
Earlier this year, Manukau Institute of Technology postponed its annual degree and higher award graduation ceremonies to be held in April. This unprecedented step was taken due to the restrictions placed on mass gatherings as part of the country’s response to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
At the time, we indicated to graduands that MIT would be postponing these ceremonies until an alternative date later in 2020 and planning had commenced to reschedule. However, because of disruption caused by the most recent outbreak and Auckland moving to COVID-19 Alert Level 3, and further uncertainty the institute has decided it is no longer possible to deliver these events this year.
We understand the disappointment this will cause to you, your whānau and the community. We were also looking forward to celebrating our Golden Jubilee in Graduation Week 2020 and honouring the legacy of staff and students since 1970. However, we must place the health and wellbeing of our people ahead of all other considerations at this difficult time.
This is a disappointment shared across the country with many thousands of students at schools, universities and other institutes who are unable to gather and celebrate their success in front of their families and loved ones.
MIT is currently looking at ways we can recognise the achievements of 2020 graduates in our next ceremonies to take place, likely to be in May 2021.
Congratulations to all our new graduates from MIT. We wish you all the very best.
MIT Chief Executive
