Biography

Tia’s specialty is in early childhood education (ECE). She is trained in ECE and has been in the field prior to lecturing- for twenty plus years.

Tia has been a lecturer at MIT since 2009. She believes in teamwork, working hard and having fun while doing so.

As a lecturer, Tia aims to get the best out of a person by taking them out of their ‘comfort zone’ and introducing them to various other ways of building knowledge and understanding.

Tia is an advocate for children, she wants to ensure that the student’s that come through are the future advocates, facilitators and educators for our tamariki in Aotearoa.

Tia describes herself as a quiet observer, loves to laugh, have fun and most of all she loves her dog/son, Lionel.

Why I love MIT

I love getting to work with wonderful academics and I enjoy shaping and moulding minds that are new to ECE. In particular I enjoy the fact that I can keep in touch with the ECE sector with regular visits to the MIT ECE centre. I enjoy doing dramas and reading stories to the tamariki that are cared for onsite.
