Course structure

  • Skills and techniques required to make basic figurines with fondant icing
  • Skills and techniques learned to decorate themed cake with modelled figurines
  • Basic skills to complete and ice cakes with fondant icing.
LessonWhat will be taught
1Familiarising with the tools used, basics of 3D modelling of figurines, starting with simple shapes
2Figurine modelling of 3 animals

4Students make figurines of their own choice with lecturer’s guidance
5Bake the cakes
6Practice masking and fondant covering on single cake
7Masking and covering the two tier cake with fondant, assembling and decorating the cake with figurines made
8Students design animal themed cake.
Make figurines and decorations for their themed cake and take those decorations to do their own cake at home.
What you will need for the course:
  • Change of clothing and a full apron. (Pants, shirt or chef jacket, closed no-slip footwear). Hat or hair-net provided
  • Water bottle and evening snack
  • Bring own boxes to take cakes home
  • Masks are to be worn at all times as per MIT policy.
