Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the Bachelor of Nursing?

The programme leading to registration is three years of full time study or up to five years of part time study. In some cases recognition of prior learning could result in a shorter programme.

When can I start?

We have two intakes per year, in February and July. Contact us for exact dates.

What are the course hours?

While you are in theory blocks, lectures and tutorials are generally scheduled between 8.00am - 6.00pm, however, you will also have self-directed learning activities to complete in your own time.

How much does the course cost?

The Bachelor of Nursing costs $4173 each year on average.

I haven't studied for years. How can I apply?

We welcome your application and will work with you to plan your pathway to become a Registered Nurse. There is a range of options available for you if you don't initially meet the entry criteria.

Will I have to do shift work when on clinical placement?

Shift start times and lengths will vary according to the organisation you are working in, some shifts may be 10- 12 hours in length. You must be available for morning shifts starting around 7am and afternoon shifts finishing at 11pm. As nursing is a 24 hour, seven day a week career you can also expect to be rostered for clinical experience at nights and weekends.

Where will I go for my clinical experience?

Our students generally have clinical experience in the Manukau/Counties area. Should any out of town placements be available these would be negotiated with you to ensure they fit with your other commitments. Students in their final year of study may request to gain experience outside New Zealand. You will need to be comfortable working with both men and women from a variety of cultures.
