John Calder came to MIT from software development, especially modernising legacy systems, and migrating and rescuing data from old database systems. Since 2000 John has been an enthusiast for web applications as the best way to develop software and he has enjoyed watching this idea catch on with others. 

Last century John’s eclectic careers have included truck driving, teaching, film-making and industry staff training in New Zealand and Australia.
