Frequently Asked Questions

We understand graduation is a personal celebration for our graduates, their families and well-wishers, as well as being an expression of who we are as a community of learning.

Now, as a single organisation, MIT and Unitec is taking the step forward to honour the choices the Class of 2026 made to study with either MIT or Unitec, while also recognising together we represent one much larger provider.

Presenting a unified experience, while making space for next year’s graduands to be recognised alongside their peers, by the schools and faculty members who supported their success, allows us to acknowledge those important connections while reflecting our present status and looking towards the future.

The experience will connect all our successful graduates as alumni of the largest on campus provider of applied learning in the country.

The achievements of all our certificate graduates will be honoured in the same arena as those receiving diplomas and degrees.

The week will represent the truest reflection of who we are, as well as the work you do to connect individuals with exciting career opportunities and help our region, its iwi, communities, services and industries to thrive.

Due Drop Events Centre has the necessary capacity and availability to produce the high-quality experience graduates deserve.

Aotea Centre and Auckland Town Hall, which we have also used previously, did not have availability to host an organisation-wide weeklong celebration of graduate success in 2027.

As an added bonus, parking at Due Drop Events Centre is free.

No decisions have been made regarding Graduation Week venues beyond May 2027.

Ceremonies will be grouped according to discipline areas and schools.

Graduates will sit and be called onto stage by faculty members of the school of the provider they originally enrolled with and studied at.

The most prominent brand on the parchments they receive will be of the provider they originally enrolled with eg. either MIT or Unitec.

The Testamurs will state that they are awarded by “Manukau Institute of Technology and Unitec”, being the legal name of the awarding entity. This is the same approach as used in 2026.

For degree and diploma recipients, regalia requirements will be based on the qualification a graduate is receiving. The process for ordering regalia will be shared with eligible graduates directly.

Regalia will not be an official part of our certificate ceremonies in 2027.

We understand that for some graduates being able to share their success with the community, family and friends in this way has been an important part of graduation experiences at MIT and Unitec in the past.

Unfortunately, due to the location, away from the central city, and packed schedule for our combined ceremonies we will be unable to offer this in 2027.

This approach will be reviewed ahead of Graduation Week 2028.

Two complimentary guest tickets will be issued to each graduate attending the ceremonies.

Additional guest tickets will be available for purchase through the ticketing agent, once all graduate and complimentary guest seating in the auditorium is accounted for.

Tickets beyond this complimentary allocation will cost $10 per additional ticket required.
