MIT announces new appointment

MIT is delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Martin Carroll to the position of Executive General Manager, Academic.

“Professor Carroll has a strong background in academic quality assurance and technology-enabled learning and has led in this area both in Australasia and beyond. It’s great to have him joining the leadership team at the institute,” says MIT Chief Executive Gus Gilmore.

For the past seven years, New Zealand-born Carroll has been Pro-Vice Chancellor at Charles Darwin University, a vocational and higher education university based in Australia’s Northern Territory.

During this time he led major advances in the online delivery of courses, the establishment of campuses in Melbourne and Sydney, and has worked closely with indigenous leadership to deliver a bicultural Master’s degree.

“Martin’s skills in a range of areas are vital to MIT as we look to launch a suite of new programmes designed for the in-work learner and targeting national skills shortages in the trades. He will have oversight of a team with real breadth and depth, tasked with achieving significant goals for vocational education in Auckland,” says Gilmore.

Prior to joining Charles Darwin University, Martin Carroll was a consulting director of the Oman Accreditation Council and has also worked as Audit Director and Business Manager at the Australian Universities Quality Agency.

His career in New Zealand began with delivering projects for Massey University including the founding of the university’s Albany campus, before managing quality assurance for Victoria University.

Professor Carroll completes a series of recent appointments to senior leadership positions at MIT which include Jenna Woolley, Executive GM – Technology, Peseta Sam Lotu-Iiga, Deputy CE – Pasifika and Dr Robert Sullivan, Deputy CE – Māori.
