Semester 1 Orientation 2023
February 8-20
Nau mai haere mai! Come and join us at your orientation event where you'll be welcomed to MIT and get all the information you need to be ready for study.
Your Orientation prepares you to begin your studies. We do this through a range of awesome events from your pōwhiri, (official welcome), followed by some morning tea, then straight into your study and tech-ready sessions, then heading back to your campus for your programme session and campus tour, all while meeting other new students and staff who will be supporting you while you study with us.

Upcoming events

What do I need to bring to orientation?
- The confirmation of your registration from Eventbrite
Please bring a printed copy or save it on your smartphone so that the QR code can be scanned. - Your student ID number and your user name
These are both found on the top of your Statement of Fees. This is sent to you as a PDF attachment with your enrolment email confirmation. - The laptop or other device that you'll use for study
The Tech Ready session will help get you set up and connected to the WiFi, printers, the student portal and other important apps for your study.
Depending on your programme, you may find that you need your own laptop and you might already own or have access to a laptop that is suitable.
Check the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) guidelines here.

What do I need to have sorted before my orientation?
If you’re worried that you don’t quite have everything sorted, we have a getting study ready page that includes some helpful information for planning ahead before your first day.
When’s the fun stuff and how do I stay up to date?
Ori-Fest is full of fun, free, activities that students can participate/attend across our three main campuses and happens in the first few week to celebrate the new semester. See what's happening on campus and join in the celebrations.
You can also like and follow the Student Life Facebook page, and Student Life Instagram or keep an eye on your email as you will receive a Student Life Newsletter to stay up to date with the latest student news, activities and events happening on campus.

Are there other events I need to be aware of?
You may receive an invitation to other inductions or trainings that are different to the two above and that is perfectly fine. Depending on what you’re studying, you might be invited to some course-specific trainings. If this is you, the relevant teams will be in touch. But we also list them here as they are confirmed.
