Biography

Fran has been involved in education and training for over 20 years in different capacities ranging from teacher to director and sitting on school boards and national associations. His leadership and innovative nature have led him to start multiple companies and organisations in his professional life and he is currently a Senior Lecturer at Manukau Institute of Technology, Trustee and Board Member at the Malakai Alatini Trust, and Mental Skills Coach at Sacred Heart College.

Fran is an engaging and innovative educator with experience in the United States, South America and New Zealand. His industry engagement focused on connecting students with future employment and development opportunities which has led to the development and delivery of the contextualised delivery of the NZ Diploma in Sport, Recreation and Exercise at different sport organisations and the organisation of overseas internships for his students.

Academic areas of research and teaching are: sport management, communication, organisational behaviour, leadership, conflict management, coaching pedagogy and sport psychology.

His latest research activity includes: Team management structure which provides a cultural framework that drives performance in New Zealand Rugby, consulting in culturally diverse environments, and management of teams throughout New Zealand rugby to apply a learning organisational model to drive performance.

I have the chance to work with students who will be leading our sport industry once they graduate from MIT, and the chance to develop and deliver programmes that are fit for our sporting community.
