MIT social work student a voice for her people

Hafsar Tamesuddin left her homeland almost ten years ago. She was resettled in New Zealand in January this year, after spending eight years in Malaysia as a stateless ethnic Rohingya, born in Myanmar.

Late Tongan Queen recognized for contribution to Pacific Music

Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT) is proud to sponsor the MIT Lifetime Achievement Award as part of the 2019 Pacific Music Awards. This year’s award honours the late Queen Salote III of Tonga who is well known for her contributions to Pacific music through compositions of both song and poetry which celebrated the preservation and revitalisation of Tongan culture, language and customary traditions.

Ethically engaging the theatre audience

Award-winning playwright and MIT lecturer Jason Te Mete is taking the class on the road to perform his play Over My Dead Body: LITTLE BLACK BITCH at Wellington’s BATS Theatre. Twenty students from the Bachelor of Creative Arts (Performing Arts) class will take part in the production to be staged as part of Kia Mau Festival (4-8 June).
