Eighteen months ago, Hera Eruera was a stay-at-home mum of two kids. These days, she’s working as a trainee tutor at MIT’s School of Plumbing and Gasfitting , while doing an apprenticeship.

Hafsar Tamesuddin left her homeland almost ten years ago. She was resettled in New Zealand in January this year, after spending eight years in Malaysia as a stateless ethnic Rohingya, born in Myanmar.

Late Tongan Queen recognized for contribution to Pacific Music

Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT) is proud to sponsor the MIT Lifetime Achievement Award as part of the 2019 Pacific Music Awards. This year’s award honours the late Queen Salote III of Tonga who is well known for her contributions to Pacific music through compositions of both song and poetry which celebrated the preservation and revitalisation of Tongan culture, language and customary traditions.
