“Never give up on something that you really want” – Andre Betham wins Māori Sports Award Scholarship
Andre Betham says he feels "blessed" to be a 2016 Māori Sports Award winner. The Trillion Trust scholarship will provide financial assistance for Andre to study a Diploma of Sports and Recreation at Manukau Institute of Technology.
Paddock to plate: Organic vegetables helping get local people into work
An initiative starting this month between Hamlin Road Farm and the Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT) will see people recovering from mental illness gain work-ready horticulture skills, and the vegetables they grow being used in MIT's student-run Dine Restaurant.
From healthcare to building healthy homes
With a nursing career spanning 12 years, in London, Samoa, Australia and New Zealand, Elizabeth Cruickshank felt like she needed a change of direction. "I asked myself, what would make me feel fulfilled? And I decided to give building a go." At the beginning of 2015, she enrolled in the Manukau Institute of Technology Certificate of Carpentry with financial assistance from a Māori and Pasifika Trades Training Scholarship.
