Meta tagging made easy?

Author: Donald P. Sheridan and Cherry Hsu

Abstract: Major international standards organizations have been working tirelessly to present a range of meta tagging solutions suitable for industry and academic implementation. For many academics, this alphabet soup of acronyms has created confusion, hesitation and a lack of commitment to the process. Generally, there have been few compelling reasons why the average academic should use meta tagging in their daily work and few examples of how it would be implemented in a reasonably seamless way – consistent with existing workflow. This paper examines these issues and presents several solutions that now appear to provide a positive return for an academic’s efforts to implement a meta tagging system.
