We have recently welcomed a group of lecturers from technical institutes in Indonesia who will be with us for six weeks.
The teachers are looking at MIT’s applied learning practices in Civil Engineering to give them new techniques to share with students in their homelands.
“The focus is on how they are going to deliver. They are going to get some ideas on how they can improve their delivery. We focus on practical delivery through involving more technical and hands-on jobs in their teaching,” says School of Engineering, Nick Kusari.
The group will be based at MIT, but will undertake site visits and engage with industry during their time in New Zealand.
It gives the school an opportunity to showcase new technology including GPS-based survey equipment.
“My civil engineering team are geared up to take them through this personal development. It’s a very important relationship that could bring more groups to MIT,” says Dr Neel Pandey, Head of Professional Engineering.
During the official pōwhiri, the visitors gifted CE Gus Gilmore a beautifully crafted tanjak.
