Thirty students from the Certificate in Maritime Crewing and the Diploma in Nautical Science made a recent visit aboard the cruise ship MS Noordam, which was docked across the street from the Maritime School. Lennart Staatsman, one of the school’s third year students, and currently onboard as a deck-cadet for his practical sea service experience, did a great job in explaining the workings of the navigation and safety systems of the vessel. After a tour of the impressive public areas of the vessel and a very tasty lunch in the Lido restaurant, the group then walked the full length of the engine room, soaking in the sights of the six enormous main engines, boilers, evaporators, incinerators and all other machinery that makes this vessel one of the cleanest modes of transport in the world.
