Interested in studying at MIT’s School of Secondary-Tertiary Studies (SSTS)? There are a few steps you should complete first.

Step 1: Is SSTS Right for You?

First, you need to decide if SSTS is right for you. The best way to do this is to visit SSTS at the MIT Ōtara Campus to see what it’s like – gate 11A, 54 Ōtara Road.

You can contact Lyn Newton to schedule a time for your visit:

Step 2: Application Forms

There are two application forms that need to be completed:

  1. A Student Application Form – this is completed by you, the student
  2. A School Endorsement Form – this is completed by your principal, deputy principal, dean or house leader at your school (if currently enrolled)

There are four ways to get a copy of these forms:

  1. Download and print the forms:
  2. Pick up an SSTS brochure from our Ask Me! Student Services Centre, which includes both forms
  3. Download an SSTS brochure, which includes both forms
  4. Contact the SSTS team and we’ll post a brochure out to you.

Step 3: School Endorsement

Provide the School Endorsement Form to your school contact so they can complete and return it to:

Or email it to lyn.newton@manukau.ac.nz, along with the student form.

Step 4: Complete Your Application

Before you start with your Student Application Form, you’ll need to get hold of the following documents:

  • Birth certificate or a passport
  • Record of academic learning (from your previous school)
  • Record of attendance (from your previous school)
  • Record of pastoral (from your previous school)
  • School endorsement (from your previous school), if it hasn’t been provided yet.

Once completed, send your application, along with your School Endorsement Form, to:

Step 5: Interview

We’ll contact you by phone, email or text to arrange an interview with you. In this interview, we’ll chat about:

  • Why are you interested in coming to SSTS?
  • Why do you think that things didn’t work out at your previous school?
  • What do you think needs to change if given a chance to join SSTS?
  • What do you want for your future? Do you have a career in mind?

The aim of the interview is to make sure that SSTS will be a good fit for you and so we can understand what support you need to succeed.
