Ngā Kete Wānanga was opened in 1999 for students, staff, and as a community resource. It incorporates a wharenui (Te Kete Uruuru Matua), a wharekai (Tahua Roa), classrooms and offices. Viewed from the above, you can see that the complex has been designed to look like a matau (hook) to 'hook' people into education.
The marae is at the heart of MIT and connects everyone together. It also demonstrates Mātauranga Māori as the central hub for all things Māori.
