Yu jin arrived in New Zealand from Korea in 2001. She gained a diploma in culinary arts at AUT and started working at Skycity Observatory Restaurant. After a few years she left Skycity and continued her work with a number of  restaurants to gain experience with different cuisine and styles within the hospitality businesses.  

Yu jin returned to Skycity Grand Hotel as a sous chef then continued her culinary journey to 215 restaurants as the head chef. 

Two years later Yu jin was offered the position as the sous chef at the Skycity Convention Centre. While she was there an MIT lecturer had come through to do his professional development. He shared his story of education and training which interested her. 

Yu jin started her new journey with MIT as a culinary lecturer in 2014.
