Then take the first step toward the career of your dreams with MIT.

This qualification will give you the core skills you need to study at tertiary level and provide you with an opportunity to pathway into one of our level 3 or 4 health programmes or New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation (Level 4) Nursing Studies.

You will get hands-on learning of which some will be in our modern clinical learning suite.

Our supportive learning environment will enable you to build your confidence and independence throughout your journey.

At the Manukau campus, you will have access to a Kaiawhina, a Pasifika support person, a Whanau and an Mā Tātou room.

You may be required to complete literacy and numeracy assessments as part of this programme.

Open entry for domestic students

There are no academic requirements that need to be met to enter this programme.

International students: English language entry requirements

For the minimum English language requirements refer to the requirements set out in the NZQF Programme and Accreditation Rules https://www.nzqa.govt.nz/providers-partners/qa-system-for-teos/english-international-students/

International students will generally be required to provide evidence of English language proficiency, for this programme an IELTS General or Academic score of 5 with no band score lower than 5 is required. You will need to complete the below three courses (60 credits):

141.320 Mathematics in practice (15 credits)

The purpose of this course is to develop and expand your knowledge and understanding of numeracy through real-world learning experiences, in order to meet the varied demands of your personal life, study and intended career destination

161.306 Pathway projects (30 credits)

The purpose of this course is to develop and expand your knowledge and understanding of Science through real-world learning experiences. It will also enable you to progressively apply, consolidate and demonstrate the skills and knowledge developed in Science, Numeracy and Literacy in order to meet the varied demands of your personal life, study and intended career destination.

181.336 Communication in practice (15 credits)

The purpose of this course is to develop and expand your knowledge and understanding of literacy through real-world learning experiences, in order to meet the varied demands of your personal life, study and intended career destination.

Careers and pathways

Free study for the first year of your Level 3 or above qualification may be available under the government’s fees-free study scheme. Visit feesfree.govt.nz for eligibility criteria and more information. Students must be eligible to study as a domestic student. Free study for Level 3 may be available for 16 to 24 year olds (Youth Guarantee). All free study is subject to funding confirmation. Proof of residency status required. Entry criteria, and some costs, may also apply. Eligibility for student allowances or student loans may vary. Contact StudyLink for more information.
